Over 24,000 Bihar Homes Get Rooftop Solar Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme, ₹161 Crore Subsidy Released

PATNA | July 30, 2026: The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is gaining momentum in Bihar, with more than 24,000 households installing rooftop solar systems and receiving substantial government support.
According to information shared by the Centre in Parliament, 24,238 homes across Bihar have installed rooftop solar systems under the scheme as of July 22, 2026, while ₹161.76 crore has been released as subsidy to eligible beneficiaries.
Strong Response to the Scheme
The government said the scheme has received 87,787 applications from Bihar so far.
Out of these:
- 24,238 rooftop solar systems have been installed.
- 24,970 families have received scheme benefits.
- ₹161.76 crore has been disbursed as subsidy.
In Bhagalpur district alone, 1,144 households have installed rooftop solar systems, receiving ₹7.75 crore in subsidy.
Quality Checks and Free Maintenance
The Centre said strict quality standards have been put in place for rooftop solar installations.
Under the scheme:
- Solar systems must be installed through registered vendors.
- Beneficiaries receive five years of free maintenance.
- Third-party inspections are carried out to ensure installation quality.
The government has also launched a toll-free helpline (15555) for complaints related to bank loans, vendors or installation issues.
