Chandigarh Auto-Mutation Completes One Year 1,829 Property Cases Resolved Without Office Visits
Chandigarh | August 11, 2026: Buying or transferring a property often comes with a long list of paperwork, applications and visits to government offices. Chandigarh is trying to change that with its auto-mutation system, which has completed one year and processed 1,829 property mutation cases without requiring owners to separately visit the Estate Office.
The system, launched on July 7, 2025, automatically receives property registration details electronically from the Sub-Registrar's office and initiates the mutation process digitally.
1,800 Property Mutation Cases Cleared Within Seven Days
Of the 1,829 cases processed under the system, around 1,800 were completed within seven days of registration, while the remaining 29 cases are still being processed within the prescribed timeline.
For property owners, this means the mutation process can move forward without the traditional requirement of submitting a separate application and documents at the Estate Office.
No Separate Application or Office Visit Required
Under the auto-mutation system, information related to a registered property is transferred electronically from the Sub-Registrar's office to the Estate Office.
The mutation process is then completed through the digital backend.
This eliminates the need for property owners to:

- Submit paperwork for the mutation process
- Depend heavily on agents or intermediaries
Applicants also receive SMS updates about the status of their mutation.
How Fast Is Chandigarh's Mutation Process
The Estate Office has prescribed different timelines depending on the type of property.
Leasehold properties: Mutation within two working days
Freehold properties: Mutation within seven working days
The automatic exchange of registration data is designed to reduce procedural delays and make property ownership records available more quickly.
