Nagpur Civic Body Seizes Properties of Tax Defaulters in ₹1,000 Crore Recovery Drive

Nagpur, August 29, 2026: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has intensified its property tax recovery drive, recovering ₹1.51 crore and initiating seizure proceedings against properties of major tax defaulters across the city.

The campaign will continue until September 30, with the civic body targeting recovery of around ₹1,000 crore in outstanding property tax dues.

Commercial Properties Under Focus

NMC recovery teams are prioritising commercial properties and major defaulters with large outstanding dues. Notices are being issued before seizure proceedings are initiated.

In the Nehru Nagar Zone, NMC seized a celebration lawn after its owners failed to clear property tax dues of ₹90.36 lakh despite repeated notices.

Several Properties Seized Across Zones

The Hanuman Nagar Zone seized around 10 properties, while the Gandhi Bagh Zone initiated seizure proceedings against 11 properties.

Of the 11 properties in Gandhi Bagh, five owners cleared their dues, helping NMC recover ₹3.23 lakh through cheques. The remaining six properties were seized.

 

Property Owners Urged to Clear Dues

The recovery drive is being conducted under the directions of NMC officials, with teams instructed to focus on large commercial properties and major tax defaulters.

The civic body has urged property owners to clear their outstanding property tax before enforcement action is taken.
