Karnataka Plans Five New Industrial Cities Outside Bengaluru

Bengaluru, August 29, 2026: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has directed officials to identify five cities outside Bengaluru for industrial development, with a focus on locations that have airport connectivity and strong infrastructure.

Five Cities to Get Industrial Push

The state government plans to attract industries to the selected cities through special incentives for investors and improved infrastructure. The objective is to create new employment opportunities and promote industrial growth beyond Bengaluru.

Officials have been asked to identify cities with suitable connectivity, including access to airports and other essential infrastructure.

Faster Digital Approvals Planned

The government is also working to strengthen Karnataka's single-window system for industrial approvals. Currently, 22 departments and 119 services have been integrated into the system.

The Chief Minister directed departments to process applications within stipulated timelines to make Karnataka more investor-friendly.

Focus on Emerging Industries

Karnataka is offering special incentives for investments in sectors including:

  • Semiconductors
  • Aerospace and defence
  • Clean mobility
  • Cell manufacturing
  • Other emerging industries

The state ranked third in attracting ₹5.58 lakh crore of manufacturing investments over the past three years, according to the statement.

Why It Matters

Developing industrial hubs outside Bengaluru could spread investment and employment opportunities across Karnataka while reducing pressure on the state's capital. Cities selected for better connectivity could also see increased demand for housing, commercial spaces, logistics and supporting infrastructure.

Grihik Takeaway: New industrial centres can create a ripple effect across the property market. If Karnataka's selected cities receive major investments, improved infrastructure and jobs could gradually boost residential and commercial demand in those locations.
