Telangana Expands Indiramma Housing Push as 2.4 Lakh Homes Completed

Hyderabad | October 20, 2026: Telangana is moving ahead with the next phase of its Indiramma housing programme, with the state government distributing sanction letters to eligible beneficiaries and signalling that more houses will be approved in the coming phases.
Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government has already sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses in the first phase and another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase. Nearly 2.4 lakh houses have been completed across the state, while construction continues in rural areas and tribal habitations.
Second Phase Sanction Letters Distributed
The minister began distributing sanction letters for beneficiaries under the second phase from Kusumanchi mandal in Palair constituency on Monday, ahead of the Dasara festival.
The government has said the scheme is intended to cover eligible poor families without discrimination based on caste, religion or political affiliation. Beneficiaries are being identified and houses sanctioned in phases.
7 Lakh Houses Sanctioned So Far
With 4.5 lakh houses approved in the first phase and 2.5 lakh in the second, the total number of sanctioned homes has reached 7 lakh.
The scale of the programme makes it one of the state's major ongoing housing initiatives, particularly for families in rural areas and tribal communities that continue to face housing shortages.
2.4 Lakh Homes Already Completed
Around 2.4 lakh Indiramma houses have been completed so far, according to the minister. Construction of other sanctioned homes is progressing, with rural and tribal areas remaining an important focus of the programme.
The government is also working on housing in CURE areas, where construction of Indiramma Towers has begun.
More Housing Phases Expected
The state government plans to continue sanctioning houses beyond the current phases. Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said third and fourth phases would also be taken up despite financial constraints.
This indicates that the housing programme is likely to remain a significant part of Telangana's residential development agenda over the coming years.
What This Means for Telangana’s Housing Market
The expansion of government-backed housing could have a wider impact than simply providing homes to beneficiaries. Large-scale construction can increase demand for cement, steel, building materials, labour, transportation and local construction services.
For developers and suppliers operating in smaller towns and rural markets, sustained government housing activity could create additional business opportunities. At the same time, faster construction will require close attention to quality, infrastructure and timely delivery.
What Happens Next
The immediate focus will be on completing the houses already sanctioned under the first two phases and distributing benefits to eligible families. The government is also expected to work on the next phases of the programme, potentially expanding the number of families covered.
For Telangana's housing sector, the progress of these projects will be worth watching as the state combines affordable housing, rural development and large-scale construction activity.
