Ghaziabad Property Owners Face Steep House Tax Hike as Traders Protest Rising Bills

Ghaziabad, August 20, 2026: Property owners and traders in Ghaziabad are facing growing concerns over higher house tax bills, with the Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal alleging that commercial properties in some cases have seen tax increases of up to five to ten times.
The traders' body has demanded that the increase should be restricted to 10–20% over the previous house tax, instead of imposing steep hikes through revised calculations and new procedures.
Why Are Traders Opposing the Tax Increase?
The organisation said many property owners and businesses are receiving substantially higher tax bills, creating an additional financial burden.
According to the traders' body, the existing house tax should be used as the base and any revision should remain within a reasonable 10–20% range.
The organisation has also opposed what it described as complicated procedures and new rules that are making the tax process difficult for property owners and traders.
Commercial Properties Face Bigger Impact
The biggest concern is reportedly among commercial property owners, with traders alleging that taxes in some cases have increased five to ten times.
Such a sharp rise could increase the operating costs of shops, offices and other commercial establishments, particularly for businesses already facing higher expenses.
Traders Demand Earlier Decision Be Implemented
The traders' organisation has demanded implementation of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation board's decision to cancel excessive tax increases.
The group also questioned why higher bills were being issued despite the Chief Minister's earlier announcement regarding no increase in house tax.
Protest Plan Announced
The traders' body has announced a three-day peaceful awareness march from Swayug Market to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk.
It said the campaign will be used to highlight the impact of the revised tax bills, after which the organisation will decide its next course of action.
What It Means for Ghaziabad Property Owners
For homeowners and commercial property owners, the dispute is important because a substantial revision in property tax can directly increase the annual cost of holding a property.
The immediate issue now is whether the Nagar Nigam will review the disputed assessments and bring the increase in line with the demands raised by traders. For property owners receiving unusually high bills, checking the revised assessment and applicable property details will be important before making further payments.
