Patna to Get Fully Functional Street Lights With Solar Upgrade

PATNA, August 31, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to ensure that all street lights within the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) area are repaired, functional and regularly maintained.

The directive was issued during a review meeting of the PMC street light programme, where officials discussed maintenance problems, new installations and automation of the city's lighting network.

New Street Lights to Use Solar Systems

The CM directed that new street lights should use integrated solar-based systems, combining the solar panel, battery and light into a single unit.

The government will also study the potential electricity and operational cost savings from converting all street lights in the PMC area to solar power.

Focus on Patna’s Urban Infrastructure

Officials have been asked to strengthen routine maintenance and monitoring so that existing lights remain operational.

Choudhary also directed officials to improve Patna's overall appearance and cleanliness, with special attention to areas around Gandhi Maidan.
