Kanpur to Get a 1,251-Acre Aero City Near Chakeri Airport
KANPUR, August 31, 2026: The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is preparing to develop a large 1,251-acre Aero City near Chakeri Airport, with three companies currently competing to prepare the development plan.
The proposed project is expected to combine residential, commercial and business uses and could create new opportunities for employment and investment in the airport-linked region.
Three Companies in Race to Prepare Aero City Plan
KDA has received bids from three companies for preparing the blueprint of the Aero City. Their technical and financial bids are currently being evaluated.
According to officials, one company is expected to be finalised within around two months, after which detailed planning for the project can move forward.
Mixed-Use Development Planned
The Aero City is planned as a mixed-use business and urban development. Proposed facilities include residential and commercial plots, hotels, a convention centre, parking facilities and wider roads.
Mixed-use plots are also being considered, allowing both residential and commercial development within the same plot.
For Kanpur, such a development could create a new economic activity zone around the airport while generating additional employment and revenue.
Road Infrastructure Being Upgraded
KDA has started preparing the surrounding infrastructure ahead of the Aero City development.
Road widening works are being planned in the area, while the entrance to Chakeri Airport is also being beautified under a project costing around ₹25 crore.
The Master Plan 2031 has also changed the land-use classification of agricultural land falling within the proposed Aero City area to residential, commercial and industrial use.
Five-Year Land Dispute Resolved
The land earmarked for the project had been involved in a dispute between the municipal corporation and KDA for around five years.
The government has now resolved the issue in favour of KDA, clearing an important hurdle for the proposed development.
Greater Kanpur Plan Also Moves Ahead
Alongside the Aero City project, KDA is surveying land for the proposed Greater Kanpur scheme, which is planned across around 5,000 acres.
Officials have so far identified approximately 600 acres for the larger development.
Why the Aero City Matters
The 1,251-acre project could strengthen Kanpur’s airport-led growth by bringing housing, commercial activity, hospitality and employment opportunities closer to Chakeri Airport.
For property buyers and investors, the project could also create a new development corridor, although actual market impact will depend on the final master plan, infrastructure execution and implementation timeline.
