SBI Home Loan Portfolio to Cross ₹10 Lakh Crore This Quarter

New Delhi, August 27, 2026: State Bank of India (SBI) expects its home loan portfolio to cross the ₹10 lakh crore mark during the current quarter, reflecting strong demand for housing finance. SBI Chairman CS Setty said the bank currently holds nearly 28% market share in the home loan segment.

SBI expands home loan reach

SBI had crossed the ₹9 lakh crore home loan milestone in the previous financial year. The bank now operates more than 460 home loan processing centres across India to make housing finance more accessible.

According to Setty, transparent pricing, customer trust and due diligence of builders are among the key factors attracting homebuyers to SBI.

Bank exploring home loan securitisation

SBI is also working on developing securitisation structures for home loans. The industry has an outstanding mortgage pool of more than ₹30 lakh crore, but much of it remains relatively illiquid.

A stronger securitisation market could help banks recycle capital and expand their lending capacity. SBI aims to complete one such transaction during the current year.

Grihik Takeaway: SBI's growing home loan portfolio signals continued housing demand across India. For homebuyers, the bank's focus on builder due diligence and wider processing network could make financing and project evaluation easier.
