PMAY-Urban Gets a Major Push! First Affordable Home Handed Over in Ghaziabad After Long Wait

GHAZIABAD | July 18, 2026: Affordable housing beneficiaries in Ghaziabad have received a major boost as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over the first completed home under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), marking the official start of possession in the city.
The handover signals the beginning of occupancy for eligible beneficiaries after years of delays caused by funding and infrastructure-related issues.
First Home Finally Handed Over
The first key was presented to a beneficiary under the Ghaziabad Development Authority's (GDA) Madhuban Bapudham Housing Scheme, making it the first PMAY-Urban flat to be handed over in Ghaziabad since the scheme was launched.
Officials said the remaining completed homes will now be handed over in phases.
Why the Project Was Delayed
According to officials, the project faced delays due to:
- Delayed release of funds.
- Pending electricity infrastructure.
- Water supply and utility development work.
- Other supporting civic infrastructure required before possession.
With these issues now addressed, the possession process has started.
Thousands of Affordable Homes in Different Stages
Under GDA's PMAY-Urban projects:
- 856 flats have been constructed in Madhuban Bapudham.
- 528 flats are ready in Newari.
- 2,112 flats across Dasna, Noor Nagar and Pratap Vihar are still under construction.
Authorities expect additional beneficiaries to receive possession as more projects are completed.
PMAY-Urban Eligibility
The scheme is intended to support economically weaker families by providing affordable housing with financial assistance from the Central and State Governments, subject to eligibility conditions.
Applicants must fulfil the income and other criteria prescribed under the scheme at the time of allotment.
Why This Matters for Homebuyers
The beginning of possession in Ghaziabad is an important milestone for PMAY-Urban beneficiaries waiting for completed homes. It also reflects progress in affordable housing delivery after essential infrastructure became operational.
Why This Matters
For eligible homebuyers, the start of possession means completed affordable homes are finally becoming available after project delays. It also indicates that infrastructure readiness remains a key factor before large housing schemes can be handed over to beneficiaries.
