PMAY-Gramin House Approvals Slow in Andhra Pradesh What It Means for Rural Home Seekers
VIJAYAWADA | July 23, 2026: Fresh approvals under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) have slowed significantly in Andhra Pradesh, according to data presented in Parliament. While construction of previously sanctioned homes is still continuing, the number of newly approved rural houses has fallen sharply over the past three financial years.
The figures suggest that the scheme's focus in the state has recently been more on completing existing houses than adding a large number of new beneficiaries.
New House Approvals Have Declined
According to data shared by the Ministry of Rural Development in the Lok Sabha, Andhra Pradesh received:
- No new house sanctions in 2021-22
- 1.78 lakh sanctioned houses in 2022-23
- 11 new approvals in 2023-24
- 504 approvals in 2024-25
- No fresh approvals in 2025-26
In total, only 515 new rural houses were sanctioned during the last three financial years after the large allocation made in 2022-23.
Ongoing Construction Has Continued
Although fresh sanctions have reduced, work on houses already approved under the scheme has not stopped.
Government data shows that thousands of previously sanctioned homes continued to be completed across successive financial years, indicating that the implementation process has remained active even as new approvals slowed.
Central Funding Also Reduced
The parliamentary data also reflects a decline in central financial assistance during the same period.
While the Centre released ₹270 crore in 2023-24, there were no releases in 2024-25 and only ₹2 crore in 2025-26.
Fund utilisation, however, continued as construction progressed under earlier allocations.

The latest figures indicate that existing construction work is continuing, but fresh approvals have become limited in Andhra Pradesh in recent years.

The Centre informed Parliament that, across India, 4.18 crore rural houses have been allocated under PMAY-Gramin since the scheme began.
Of these, 3.92 crore houses have been sanctioned, while 3.10 crore have been completed as of July 16, 2026.
Eligible beneficiaries under the scheme continue to receive financial assistance for house construction, along with convergence benefits such as toilets, electricity, drinking water and LPG connections, subject to the applicable scheme guidelines.
