Panchkula Property Tax Relief Proposal to Be Discussed in First General House Meeting

Panchkula, June 14, 2026: The Panchkula Municipal Corporation will hold its first General House meeting on June 16, where councillors are expected to discuss a one-time property tax interest waiver scheme and several civic development projects across the city.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Shyam Lal Bansal, will focus on recovering long-pending property tax dues, improving sanitation services, upgrading civic infrastructure and addressing local public issues.

Property Tax Relief Under Consideration

One of the biggest proposals on the agenda is a one-time waiver of interest on pending property tax dues.

The proposal, submitted by councillor Bharat Hiteshi, seeks to waive nearly ₹20 crore in accumulated interest on outstanding property tax dues exceeding ₹100 crore. The objective is to encourage taxpayers to clear their dues while helping the civic body recover the principal amount and strengthen municipal finances.

If approved, the scheme could provide relief to thousands of property owners with pending tax liabilities.

Ward No. 4 May Become a Model Cleanliness Ward

The House will also discuss a plan to transform Ward No. 4 into a model sanitation zone.

The proposal includes:

  • Daily door-to-door garbage collection
  • Regular lifting of garden waste
  • Mechanical cleaning of major roads
  • Street sweeping three times a week
  • Additional sanitation staff for Sectors 9 and 10

The civic body is also considering suspending garbage user charges until waste collection services cover all households in the city.

Infrastructure Projects on the Agenda

Several infrastructure proposals are expected to be reviewed during the meeting.

These include:

  • Construction of a new community centre in Sector 9
  • Waterlogging solutions in Sectors 9 and 10
  • Cleaning of underground stormwater drains
  • Upgrading rainwater drainage systems
  • Installation of LED streetlights
  • Road repairs and recarpeting work in multiple sectors

Officials will also discuss replacing old sewer lines in Fatehpur and Maheshpur villages.

Other Development Plans

The General House may also consider proposals for recreation centres, libraries, indoor sports facilities and a Dr BR Ambedkar Library and Art Gallery in Ward 17.

Additional projects include a sports stadium and community facilities in Chandi Kotla village, along with improvements to parks, markets and group housing societies.

The agenda also covers solutions for stray animal issues, monkey menace complaints, anti-encroachment drives, disease-prevention measures and repairs of public toilets and Anganwadi buildings.

Key Takeaway

While several development projects are up for discussion, the proposed property tax interest waiver is likely to attract the most attention. If approved, the move could help Panchkula recover a significant portion of pending tax dues while offering financial relief to defaulting property owners.
