Samba Police File 19 FIRs Against Property Owners For Failing Tenant Verification

JAMMU | June 15, 2026 Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered 19 FIRs against property owners in Samba district for failing to comply with mandatory tenant verification requirements during a special verification drive aimed at strengthening security measures and ensuring adherence to local regulations.

The verification campaign focused on outsiders residing as tenants and domestic helpers across the district. According to officials, action was taken after several property owners failed to provide tenant details despite directives issued by the district administration.

19 FIRs Registered During Verification Drive

Police officials said 13 FIRs were registered at Bari Brahmana Police Station, while six FIRs were filed at Samba Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities noted that the drive was launched to improve monitoring of rented accommodations and maintain updated records of tenants and domestic helpers residing within the district.

District Administration Had Issued Mandatory Verification Orders

The District Magistrate of Samba had earlier directed landlords and property owners to ensure police verification of tenants occupying residential and commercial properties.

Despite these instructions, several owners reportedly failed to submit the required information, resulting in legal action by law enforcement authorities.

Officials said tenant verification remains an important compliance requirement that supports local security and law enforcement efforts.

Police Ask Property Owners To Cooperate

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Anuj Kumar, urged property owners to cooperate with authorities by providing complete details of tenants and domestic helpers at their nearest police stations.

According to police officials, timely verification helps maintain law and order and reduces the risk of rented accommodations being misused by anti-social or criminal elements.

Landlords have been advised to complete verification procedures whenever new tenants move into their properties.

Security Review Conducted Ahead Of Amarnath Yatra

The verification drive comes shortly after SSP Samba reviewed security arrangements in the Bari Brahmana area ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra.

As part of the inspection, police reviewed security deployment at lodgement centres designated for pilgrims and assessed operational preparedness across multiple locations.

Special emphasis was also placed on strengthening security arrangements at national highway checkpoints within the district.

Authorities Warn Against Non Compliance

Officials have reiterated that tenant verification is an important responsibility for property owners and landlords.

The latest FIRs registered in Samba serve as a reminder that failure to comply with verification requirements can result in legal consequences. Authorities have urged property owners to complete the verification process promptly and cooperate with local police.
