Big Housing Push in Bihar! Vacant Government Land to Be Turned Into Affordable Homes Across Cities
PATNA | July 15, 2026: The Bihar government is preparing a major housing initiative that could transform long-unused Housing Board land into planned residential communities across urban areas. The proposed move aims to expand affordable housing while making better use of vacant government land.
According to officials, the Urban Development and Housing Department has started the initial exercise to identify unused Housing Board land that can be developed into modern residential projects for different income groups.
Survey to Identify Suitable Land
The first phase of the plan involves identifying vacant government land owned by the Housing Board. After identification, authorities will conduct detailed surveys to assess:
- Available land parcels
- Housing capacity
- Project feasibility
- Estimated development cost
The findings will form the basis for preparing detailed project reports before construction begins.
Modern Residential Communities Planned
The proposed housing projects are expected to include essential urban infrastructure such as:
- Internal roads
- Drinking water supply

The state government is also considering technical assistance from NBCC (India) Limited for project planning, engineering support and execution.
