Patna Property Tax Collection Rises Nearly 14% Here's Why More Owners Are Paying on Time

PATNA | July 24, 2026: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reported a 13.9% increase in property tax collections during the first four months of the current financial year, indicating improved tax compliance among property owners.

According to civic officials, the corporation collected ₹51.76 crore in property tax between April 1 and July 22, 2026, compared with ₹45.43 crore during the same period last year.


Awareness Campaigns Credited for Higher Collections

PMC officials attributed the improved collections to continuous public outreach initiatives aimed at encouraging timely tax payments.

The corporation has been contacting property owners through telephone calls and other communication channels to remind them about payment deadlines and the importance of clearing dues on time.

Officials believe these efforts have contributed to greater awareness and better compliance among taxpayers.


July Collections Also Show Growth

The increase was also reflected in collections during July.

Between July 1 and July 22, PMC collected ₹3.61 crore from 9,634 property owners, compared with ₹2.89 crore collected from 9,431 property owners during the same period in 2025.

The figures indicate growth in both the amount collected and the number of taxpayers making payments.

 


Property Owners Warned About Late Payment Charges

PMC has reminded property owners that payments made after October 1 will attract additional charges under the Bihar Municipal Property Tax Rules.

According to the rules, an additional 1.5% interest per month will be levied on the outstanding principal amount after the due date. The charge will continue to accumulate every month until the pending tax is paid.

Officials have advised taxpayers to complete payments before the deadline to avoid additional financial liability.


Payment Can Be Made Through Multiple Modes

The civic body has urged residents to use either online or offline payment facilities to pay property tax within the prescribed timeline.

According to officials, timely tax collection helps fund municipal services and supports the development and maintenance of urban infrastructure across the city.

Property owners in Patna who have not yet paid their annual property tax should be aware of the October 1 deadline. Delaying payment beyond that date could increase the overall amount payable because of monthly interest charges. Paying on time can help avoid additional costs while ensuring compliance with municipal regulations.
