PATNA | June 18, 2026: Patna property owners are paying more attention to tax compliance this year, helping the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) collect over ₹31 crore in property tax within the first two and a half months of the financial year.

Interestingly, the higher revenue has come despite fewer taxpayers compared to the same period last year, highlighting the impact of revised tax assessments and improved payment compliance across the city.

For homeowners, the development also serves as a reminder that a property tax rebate is still available for a limited period.


Property Tax Collection Surpasses Last Year

Official data shows PMC collected more than ₹31 crore between April 1 and June 16, compared to around ₹30 crore during the corresponding period last year.

The increase comes even though the number of taxpayers declined from 98,338 last year to 94,553 this year.

Officials attribute the growth to a revised property assessment structure that considers road categories and property locations more closely.

Many property owners focus on registration charges, maintenance costs and home loan repayments, but property tax compliance can also directly affect ownership records and municipal services.

Digital payment methods remain the preferred option for most taxpayers.


According to PMC data:

  • More than 57,500 taxpayers used online payment channels.
  • The PMC portal remained the most popular platform.
  • Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) was among the preferred alternatives.

The growing use of digital payments has helped streamline tax collection and improve convenience for property owners.


Limited Time Rebate Still Available

PMC is currently offering a 5% rebate for property owners who make a lump-sum payment for the full financial year before June 30.

For many homeowners, this provides an opportunity to reduce annual tax liability while avoiding future payment delays.

Civic Body Intensifies Compliance Drive

To improve collection efficiency, PMC has launched an extensive outreach campaign.


Measures include:

  • Daily SMS reminders to nearly two lakh property owners
  • Direct calls from control room teams
  • Public announcements through garbage collection vehicles

Officials hope these efforts will further increase compliance during the remaining weeks of the rebate period.
