PDA to Clear Illegal Encroachments on Army Land in Prayagraj, New Hi-Tech Township Planned

Prayagraj, August 23, 2026 The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is set to clear illegal encroachments from Army land in Iradatganj, Yamunapar, to develop a new hi-tech township. More than 400 bighas of Army land have been identified for the project, but a large number of unauthorised constructions currently stand on the site.

Around 60 to 70 people have built houses and shops on the land over the years. The Army has written to the PDA requesting that the area be freed from encroachments. PDA has already inspected the site and marked the illegal structures. Notices will soon be issued to the occupants. If the structures are not removed within the stipulated time, demolition action will follow. The process is expected to begin in September.

PDA Vice-Chairman Rishiraj confirmed that the Army’s letter arrived a few days ago and the authority is preparing to start the clearance drive shortly. Zonal officers have completed the survey of the identified parcels.

The planned township is expected to open a significant new residential and mixed-use corridor in the Yamunapar region, an area that has seen rising interest from homebuyers and investors in recent years. Once the land is cleared and transferred, PDA will move forward with the detailed development plan.

In a separate development, PDA will also launch the Padma residential scheme near the ancestral house of late mafia Atiq Ahmed. The foundation ceremony for this project is scheduled for October. Spread over nearly 10,000 square metres, the scheme will offer 602 two-BHK flats priced at around ₹25 lakh each. Eight lifts will be installed in the complex.

Both projects signal PDA’s push to expand organised housing supply in Prayagraj while reclaiming public and defence land from long-standing encroachments.
