Nagpur, August 27, 2026: The Nagpur district administration has ordered a fresh socio-economic survey of Kachipura to map around 800 existing properties before redevelopment of the prime 19-hectare land parcel. The exercise will provide updated data on residents, property ownership, businesses and infrastructure and could shape the area's proposed transformation into a Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC)-style commercial hub.


Survey to Map Properties and Land Ownership

The Centre for Sustainable Development (CFSD) has been asked to conduct the fresh survey. Officials will assess housing conditions, land ownership, livelihoods, existing businesses and infrastructure in the locality.

A previous survey conducted in 2018 had identified nearly 800 properties, including hotels, marriage lawns, automobile workshops, furniture marts and other commercial establishments.


Redevelopment Plan Gains Momentum

The survey comes as the administration prepares a development and rehabilitation framework for Kachipura. The latest data will help authorities identify current occupants and properties and determine the rehabilitation requirements before redevelopment begins.

The state government's recent decision against regularisation of unauthorised structures in Kachipura has also cleared the way for further action against several existing structures.

 


BKC-Style Commercial Hub Proposed

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed transforming the Kachipura area and PDKV land into a modern mixed-use urban centre inspired by Mumbai's BKC, with commercial, residential and recreational facilities.

The plan also envisages alternative housing for around 800 families and reasonably priced commercial space for businesses affected by redevelopment.


Private Investment Could Drive Development

The project is proposed to be implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Sale (DBFOS) model, potentially bringing private investment into the development. MSIDC and Nagpur Municipal Corporation are involved in the planning process.
