UP Chief Minister Housing Scheme Expands Eligibility, 353 More Families in Meerut Can Apply
Meerut, August 28, 2026: More poor families in Uttar Pradesh may now get a chance to build their own homes as the state government has expanded the eligibility scope of the Chief Minister Housing Scheme.
The change is particularly significant for families who were identified in the Zero Poverty Survey but could not be included in the permanent eligibility list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.
353 Families in Meerut Get a New Opportunity
Around 900 families in Meerut were identified under the Zero Poverty Survey. Of these, 543 families were included in the PMAY-G eligibility list.
The remaining around 353 families can now apply under the Chief Minister Housing Scheme, provided they meet the prescribed conditions.
For eligible families, the government provides ₹1.20 lakh financial assistance for house construction.
How Will the ₹1.20 Lakh Be Paid?
The assistance is released in three instalments:
- First instalment: ₹40,000
- Second instalment: ₹70,000
- Final instalment: ₹10,000
Eligible beneficiaries may also get work under the rural employment scheme. Those who construct their own house can receive wages for up to 90 days of work.
Who Can Apply?
The expanded eligibility covers certain vulnerable and economically weaker families, including:
- Homeless families
- Families living in kutcha houses
- Destitute persons
- Widows
- Persons with disabilities
- Leprosy-affected persons
- Families affected by natural disasters
- Certain tribal and vulnerable communities
- Legally released bonded labourers
- Manual scavenger families
Who Cannot Get the Benefit?
Families may be excluded if they meet conditions such as:
- Owning a three-wheeler or four-wheeler vehicle
- Having a government employee in the family
- Being an income-tax payer
- Having a family member earning more than ₹15,000 per month
- Owning 2.5 acres or more of irrigated land
- Having certain high-value agricultural equipment or a Kisan Credit Card limit above ₹50,000
What Documents Are Needed?
Applicants in Meerut have been asked to submit:
- Aadhaar card
- Bank passbook copy
- Five photographs
The administration will identify and verify eligible families before providing assistance.
