Shree Cement Profit Falls 15% Despite Stronger Sales and Expansion Push

New Delhi | October 23, 2026

Shree Cement’s profitability came under pressure in the September quarter even as the company recorded strong growth in sales volumes and overall income. The cement maker reported a 15% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹263.46 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹309.82 crore a year earlier.

At the same time, consolidated total income increased 21.6% to ₹6,008.98 crore, while domestic cement and clinker sales volumes climbed 18%. The contrasting numbers point to a quarter in which demand and volumes remained strong, but higher costs and operating pressures weighed on the bottom line.

Sales Growth Remains Strong Despite Profit Pressure

Shree Cement’s domestic sales volume, including cement and clinker, rose to 9.31 million tonnes, compared with 7.91 million tonnes in Q2 FY26. Consolidated sales volume also increased 14% to 10.52 million tonnes.

The company also expanded the contribution of premium products in its India operations. Premium products accounted for 28.7% of trade volumes, up from 21.1% in the year-ago quarter.

For property and construction markets, stronger cement volumes are an important indicator because they reflect continued activity across housing, commercial development and infrastructure projects.

What the Numbers Mean for Real Estate

Cement demand is closely linked to the pace of construction. Shree Cement’s volume growth suggests that construction activity remained resilient during the quarter despite pressure on the company’s profitability.

For developers and contractors, sustained cement demand can indicate continued project execution across key markets. For homebuyers, the broader signal is that large construction companies continue to invest in capacity and supply networks rather than pulling back from the market.

Ready-Mix Concrete Business Expands Rapidly

Shree Cement’s ready-mix concrete business recorded particularly strong growth during the quarter.

RMC sales volume jumped 153% year-on-year to 2.73 lakh cubic metres, while revenue increased 182% to ₹129 crore. The company had 28 commercial RMC plants during the quarter, taking its overall network, including captive facilities, to 35 plants.

The RMC business remained operationally EBITDA positive during Q2 FY27, adding another growth avenue beyond conventional cement sales.

Expansion Continues Across India and Overseas

Shree Cement is continuing to increase its production capacity. Its UAE-based step-down subsidiary, Union Cement Company, commissioned a new 3 million tonnes per annum cement mill in September 2026.

The commissioning increased Union Cement Company’s total cement production capacity to 7 million tonnes per annum.

In India, the company is developing a greenfield integrated cement plant in Meghalaya, with commissioning expected by the quarter ending March 31, 2028.

H1 Profit Also Remains Under Pressure

For the first half of FY27, Shree Cement’s consolidated total income increased 19.1% to ₹12,453.82 crore.

However, net profit declined 16.7% to ₹794.58 crore from ₹953.48 crore during the corresponding period last year.

The company ended September with a net worth of ₹23,862.41 crore. Its debt-equity ratio stood at 0.08, while total debt accounted for 6% of total assets.

What Property Stakeholders Should Watch Next

The key takeaway for the real estate sector is the gap between Shree Cement’s volume growth and profit growth. Construction demand remains firm, but profitability is facing pressure.

Going forward, the company’s capacity additions, RMC expansion and premium-product growth will be important to watch. For developers and construction-linked businesses, these developments could influence cement availability, product mix and procurement economics as new projects move ahead.

For the wider property market, continued expansion by major building-material companies provides another indication that the construction pipeline remains active even as input costs and margins remain closely watched.
