Pimpri Chinchwad, Maharashtra | September 7, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is expecting property tax collections for FY 2025–26 to remain below the levels recorded in the previous two financial years, prompting the civic body to intensify recovery measures against defaulters.

As of February 18, PCMC had collected around ₹729 crore, compared with ₹740 crore during the same period a year earlier. The corporation collected ₹965 crore in FY 2024–25 and ₹977 crore in FY 2023–24.


PCMC Targets More Than ₹900 Crore in Recovery

With limited time remaining in the financial year, officials said matching the previous year's collection may be difficult. The civic body is now targeting property tax recovery of more than ₹900 crore.

Notices are being issued to defaulters, with property attachment and publication of defaulters' names among the measures being used to increase collections.


Election No-Dues Requirement Boosts Payments

One factor supporting recovery was the requirement for candidates contesting civic elections to obtain no-dues certificates. This encouraged several individuals and businesses with significant outstanding property tax liabilities to clear their dues.

The development highlights how mandatory clearance requirements can influence payment behaviour among property owners with long-pending liabilities.

 


Red Zone Owners Get 50% Tax Rebate

PCMC is also seeking higher payments from property owners in designated red zone areas. Under an incentive scheme, owners who clear all pending dues can receive a 50% rebate on property tax for 2026–27.

Residents in these areas have previously raised concerns over limited civic amenities and development restrictions. The rebate has nevertheless received a positive response and could encourage more owners to regularise their tax payments.


Nearly One Lakh New Properties Added to Tax Register

A recent PCMC survey identified and added nearly one lakh properties to the municipal tax registry. The total number of properties registered with the tax department has now reached around 7.3 lakh.

The expansion of the tax base could support future municipal revenue growth by bringing previously unregistered properties into the formal property tax system.

 


Civic Body Attaches Over 80 Properties

Enforcement has also intensified against persistent defaulters. PCMC has attached more than 80 non-residential properties as part of its recovery drive.

The civic body has also started disconnecting water supply to residential properties belonging to chronic defaulters. Officials have urged property owners to clear outstanding dues to avoid enforcement action.
