Meerut Authority Surveys 10,000 Buildings to Check Illegal Construction

MEERUT, August 31, 2026: The Meerut Development Authority (MEDA) has started a large-scale survey of buildings across its jurisdiction following directions from the Supreme Court to identify unauthorised construction and misuse of land.

So far, the authority has completed the survey of around 10,000 buildings, while more than 8 lakh buildings are estimated to fall within its jurisdiction.

What Will the Survey Check

Officials are examining approved building maps, the actual construction on the ground and the current use of properties.

The exercise will help identify buildings where construction has taken place beyond the sanctioned plan or where the property is being used for a purpose different from the approved land use.

Survey Could Take 3 to 4 Months

MEDA officials expect the complete exercise to take around three to four months.

Survey teams have already covered areas including Delhi Road, Baghpat Road, Ganga Nagar, Modipuram and Civil Lines.

 

Action May Follow After Survey

Once the survey is completed, buildings found to have unauthorised construction or land-use violations could be identified for further action according to applicable rules.

The campaign follows action against illegal constructions in Shastri Nagar, where demolition activity was carried out following the Supreme Court's directions.
