Gurugram Cracks Down on Illegal Construction With 1,319 Notices and 662 Restoration Orders
Gurugram, August 27, 2026: Illegal construction and unauthorised commercial activities in Gurugram’s licensed colonies are facing intensified action from the Town and Country Planning Department. The department has issued 1,319 show-cause notices and 662 restoration orders, putting property owners across several prominent neighbourhoods under scrutiny.
South City and Sushant Lok see major action
The highest number of notices has been issued in South City, where 538 cases have been reported. These include 230 cases involving commercial and residential violations and 308 related to residential violations.
Sushant Lok follows with 283 notices, including 100 separate notices related to unauthorised commercial activities in Sushant Lok-1. Other prominent colonies under scrutiny include Vipul World, Greenwood City, R.D. City, Vatika and The Westerlies.
For homeowners, the action is significant because violations are no longer limited to large-scale illegal construction. Residential properties being used for unauthorised commercial purposes are also being examined.
662 properties ordered to restore approved layouts
The department has issued 662 restoration orders, directing property owners to remove unauthorised changes and restore their buildings according to sanctioned plans and applicable regulations.
Sushant Lok-1 has received 250 restoration orders, followed by DLF Phase-3 with 248. DLF Phase-4 has 126 orders, while DLF Phase-2 has 38.
This means homeowners who have made structural changes without the required approvals could face further enforcement if the violations are not corrected within the prescribed period.
Stilt parking, setbacks and commercial use under scrutiny
The crackdown covers several types of violations, including construction in stilt parking areas, setbacks and road land, as well as unauthorised commercial activities in residential properties.
Officials are also checking homes being used as offices, shops, clinics, guest houses and other commercial establishments without the required permissions. In some cases, properties have already been sealed and unauthorised structures removed.
