Thousands of Property Owners Could Save Money Under Lucknow's New Tax Relief Plan

LUCKNOW | July 21, 2026: Missing a property tax payment often means watching interest and penalties continue to grow over time. But property owners in Lucknow may soon get an opportunity to reduce that burden through a new settlement plan announced by the civic body.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will introduce a One-Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme from August 15 to December 15, allowing eligible taxpayers to clear long-pending dues while receiving relief on accumulated interest and surcharges under applicable rules.

The Biggest Benefit Isn't the Waiver—It's the Chance to Reset Your Property Records

Many property owners delay clearing old tax dues because penalties keep increasing every year.

The proposed OTS scheme gives them an opportunity to settle outstanding liabilities by paying the principal amount, while becoming eligible for concessions on interest and surcharge as provided under the scheme.

For many households, this could reduce the overall amount required to close long-pending tax disputes.

What Taxes Are Covered?

The scheme will include pending dues relating to:

  • House tax
  • Water tax
  • Sewer tax

It will cover dues outstanding up to April 1, 2026, and apply to residential, commercial, industrial, government, semi-government and public sector properties falling within the limits of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation.

Can't Pay Everything at Once? There Is Another Option

Recognising that some taxpayers have large outstanding dues, the civic body has also proposed an instalment facility.

Property owners with dues exceeding ₹1 lakh will be allowed to pay in three monthly instalments during the scheme period.

To avail this facility, applicants must deposit one-third of the outstanding amount while applying, with the balance payable in the remaining instalments within the scheme window.

How to Apply

Eligible taxpayers will be able to submit applications through both online and offline modes.

The civic body also plans to establish dedicated help desks to assist applicants and simplify the process.

Why This Scheme Matters Beyond Tax Savings

For many property owners, clearing pending municipal taxes is not only about avoiding additional charges.

Updated tax records can also make future property transactions, ownership documentation and municipal services smoother, while reducing the risk of prolonged disputes over unpaid dues.

The Bigger Picture

Municipal bodies across India are increasingly using One-Time Settlement schemes to improve tax recovery while offering relief to taxpayers.

For property owners in Lucknow, this could be an opportunity to clear long-standing dues under a structured payment framework rather than allowing penalties to continue accumulating.

Why This News Matters

Many people postpone paying property taxes because the outstanding amount keeps rising with interest and penalties.

This scheme changes that equation by giving eligible taxpayers a limited-time opportunity to regularise old dues under more favourable terms.

If you own property in Lucknow and have pending municipal taxes, understanding the scheme before it opens could help you make a more informed financial decision.
