5 Lakh Housing Support Announced in Hyderabad But Many Families May Not Qualify Here's Why

HYDERABAD | July 21, 2026: Telangana has taken another major step towards affordable urban housing by extending the Indiramma Housing Scheme to Hyderabad's Core Urban Region (CURE). The government plans to build one lakh affordable homes, but the announcement comes with eligibility conditions that many aspiring applicants should understand before expecting to benefit.

Unlike many housing announcements that focus only on the number of homes, this scheme clearly defines who can apply, how much financial support the government will provide and what responsibilities beneficiaries will have after allotment.

Government to Build One Lakh Homes in Hyderabad

The state government has launched the first phase of the scheme in Hyderabad CURE by approving 500 houses each in 16 Assembly constituencies. The remaining constituencies are expected to be covered in subsequent phases.

The homes will be developed as multi-storey residential buildings, with each apartment offering a built-up area of 525 square feet.

5 Lakh Support Doesn't Mean the Home Is Free

One of the biggest highlights of the scheme is the 5 lakh government subsidy.

However, beneficiaries will still need to contribute the remaining amount.

According to the government, each flat is expected to cost around 11 lakh, of which 5 lakh will be provided as financial assistance, while the remaining 6 lakh must be paid by the beneficiary in four instalments.

For many families, understanding this financial commitment will be just as important as qualifying for the scheme.

Who Can Apply?

The government has laid down several conditions for eligibility.

Applicants must:

  • Have an annual family income of not more than 6 lakh.
  • Not own a house or residential plot within Hyderabad CURE.
  • Meet other eligibility requirements prescribed under the scheme.

The government has also announced reservation for SC, ST and BC beneficiaries during allotment.

One Important Rule Buyers Shouldn't Ignore

Unlike a regular property purchase, an Indiramma house cannot be sold for 10 years.

However, beneficiaries will be allowed to mortgage the property with a bank if they wish to obtain a loan.

This condition is aimed at ensuring that the homes are used for residential security rather than short-term property trading.

What This Means for Homebuyers

Affordable housing schemes often generate excitement, but eligibility conditions play a decisive role in determining who can actually benefit.

Families interested in the Indiramma Housing Scheme should carefully evaluate whether they meet the income and ownership criteria before making financial plans based on the announcement.

Why This News Matters

Many people stop reading after hearing "5 lakh housing support." The more important question is whether they qualify and what financial responsibility still remains.

The Indiramma Housing Scheme shows that government support can reduce the cost of homeownership, but buyers should always understand the eligibility rules, payment obligation and resale restrictions before applying.
