Patna, June 10, 2026: Thousands of property owners in Patna could soon gain full ownership rights after the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved a proposal to convert leasehold residential properties into freehold assets.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the empowered standing committee and is expected to benefit residents in areas such as Rajendra Nagar, Shri Krishnapuri, PIT Colony and Beur, among others.

Residents to Get Full Ownership Rights

Under the proposed policy, eligible property holders will be able to convert their leasehold properties into freehold ownership by paying a conversion fee equivalent to 10% of the prevailing circle rate.

Once converted, property owners will gain complete ownership rights, making property transfers, sales and inheritance processes significantly easier.

Officials believe the move will help resolve several long-standing issues linked to lease conditions and ownership disputes.

Policy Aims to Reduce Legal Disputes

Municipal authorities say the proposal is designed to address decades-old complications involving lease violations, unauthorized constructions and ownership transfers.
