Nashik Could Get a ₹14,520 Crore Metro Network That May Change How the City Moves
Nashik, August 12, 2026: Getting across Nashik could become significantly easier in the coming years if a proposed ₹14,520 crore metro network gets the green light. Maha Metro has proposed a 58-km Light Metro network that could connect residential areas, major roads, commercial hubs and Nashik Airport.
For residents, the proposal is more than just another infrastructure announcement. Better public transport can mean shorter daily commutes, easier access to jobs and business districts, and potentially stronger demand for property around future transit corridors.
What Is Being Proposed for Nashik?
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) has identified three potential Light Metro corridors in its draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP).
The proposed network would be developed in two phases and cover around 58 km, with an estimated total investment of ₹14,520 crore.
The first phase would include:
- Gangapur Village to Nashik Road: 21.5 km
- Mumbai Naka to Pathardi Phata: 13.58 km
Together, these two corridors would cover about 35 km at an estimated cost of ₹8,770 crore.
The Gangapur Village–Nashik Road corridor has been proposed for implementation by 2031, while the Mumbai Naka–Pathardi Phata corridor has a target of 2036.
Nashik Airport Could Get a Direct Metro Link
The second phase could add another 23-km corridor between Ambad and Nashik Airport.
The proposed corridor is estimated to cost around ₹5,750 crore and is envisaged for implementation by 2046.
For airport-bound passengers and residents living along the route, such a connection could eventually make travel more convenient while reducing dependence on road-based transport.
Why This Could Matter for Nashik Property Buyers
Infrastructure often changes how people view a locality.
Areas that are currently dependent on private vehicles can become more attractive when reliable mass transit arrives. Better connectivity can improve access to workplaces, schools, commercial areas and other parts of the city.

The Project Is Still Not Final
The ₹14,520 crore proposal is not yet an approved metro project.
Maha Metro has presented the draft CMP to stakeholders and invited suggestions. The plan is being revised based on the feedback received, after which the final CMP is expected to be submitted to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in September for approval.
The proposed corridors will also require statutory procedures, stakeholder consultations and detailed feasibility assessments before a final decision is taken.
Nashik's Earlier Metro Plan Was Dropped
The new proposal comes after Nashik's earlier Neo Metro project failed to move ahead.
The Centre had announced the Neo Metro project in the Union Budget for 2021-22 with an allocation of ₹2,092 crore. However, the project was later dropped, raising concerns over whether Nashik would get a large-scale mass transit system.
Following a review in April 2025, Maha Metro conducted a fresh mobility survey to reassess Nashik's transportation requirements.
Thousands of Daily Commuters Could Benefit
Maha Metro estimates that the two Phase I corridors could each handle peak-hour passenger traffic of nearly 11,000 commuters per hour.
If the proposal eventually moves from planning to execution, the network could become an important part of Nashik's long-term urban growth.
For residents, the bigger question now is not simply whether Nashik will get a metro, but when the proposed corridors will receive final approval and move towards actual construction.
What happens next: The draft CMP will be revised after stakeholder feedback and is expected to be placed before the Chief Minister in September 2026. The final metro decision will depend on approvals, feasibility assessments and subsequent project processes.
