Worli BDD Chawl Residents Move Closer to New 2 BHK Homes as MHADA Starts 574 Flat Allotments
Mumbai, Maharashtra | September 11, 2026: Hundreds of families living in Mumbai’s ageing Worli BDD Chawls are moving closer to permanent new homes as MHADA has started allotting 574 rehabilitation flats under the ongoing redevelopment project. The latest allotment follows occupancy certificates for two wings of Rehabilitation Building No. 1.
The redevelopment is expected to significantly change the housing conditions of eligible residents who have lived in the old chawls.
574 Families to Receive Rehabilitation Homes
MHADA has started the allotment process for eligible residents of Wings B and C, with distribution taking place first for Wing C and then Wing B.
Residents must appear according to the allotted schedule and submit documents including the rehabilitation flat agreement, Aadhaar and PAN cards, photographs and other required undertakings.
New Homes Offer Much More Space
The rehabilitation plan provides eligible residents currently living in 160 sq ft tenements with 500 sq ft carpet-area 2 BHK flats on an ownership basis without additional cost.
Each eligible flat holder will also receive one parking space in the stilt and podium parking structure.
Worli Redevelopment Is Being Delivered in Phases
Capacit’e Infraprojects, in a joint venture with Tata Projects, has handed over Towers B and C in Cluster 1, comprising 552 apartments. Another 1,380 units across Towers D, E, F, G and H have already been handed over.
MHADA is distributing homes in phases as construction is completed and occupancy certificates are received. Earlier, 556 rehabilitation tenements were distributed in August 2025, while allotment of another 827 units in Wings F, G and H began in May 2026.
9,689 Worli Residents Are Set for Rehabilitation
The Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment is part of a wider 192-acre urban renewal project covering BDD chawls in Worli, Naigaon and Na. M. Joshi Marg-Parel.
In Worli alone, around 9,689 residents from 121 old chawls are planned to be rehabilitated through 34 rehabilitation buildings, each rising to 40 storeys.
Why the Project Matters to Mumbai’s Housing Market
The redevelopment is not only replacing old chawl structures but also creating formal ownership-based housing for thousands of existing residents in one of Mumbai’s established central locations.
MHADA will maintain the rehabilitated buildings for 12 years, providing residents with a longer-term managed housing arrangement. The project also demonstrates how large-scale redevelopment can unlock better-quality housing while transforming ageing residential neighbourhoods in Mumbai.
