Karnataka Plans Five Major Cities on Bengaluru Lines to Ease Congestion

MYSURU, August 31, 2026: Karnataka is planning to develop five major cities, including Mysuru, on the lines of Bengaluru to promote balanced urban growth and reduce pressure on the state capital.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the government is considering stronger infrastructure support and Outer Ring Roads around these cities to improve connectivity and manage growing traffic.

Mysuru Among Key Cities

The government wants to strengthen infrastructure in five cities and attract more development outside Bengaluru. The Chief Minister said Mysuru is already better planned than Bengaluru and could play an important role in the state's decentralised growth strategy.

Outer Ring Roads are also being considered for smaller urban centres to improve traffic movement. The government plans to consult stakeholders before taking a final decision.

Focus on Decongesting Bengaluru

The proposed development strategy aims to create stronger urban centres outside Bengaluru, potentially reducing the concentration of jobs, businesses and infrastructure in the state capital.

Better roads, connectivity and supporting infrastructure could also improve the investment potential of the selected cities.

 

Why It Matters for Property Markets

If implemented effectively, the plan could increase demand for residential, commercial and industrial properties in the selected cities. New ring roads and improved infrastructure may also make peripheral areas more accessible, potentially influencing future property development and land values.

Mysuru Dasara to Get International Push

The Chief Minister also said this year's Dasara celebrations will feature new ideas and aim for an international-level procession. The government plans to involve the Army, Air Force, film personalities, folk teams and cultural groups from across Karnataka.

Tourism stakeholders will also participate in planning the 10-day celebration.
