Cyberabad Cracks Down on Illegal Buildings 9 Demolished After Gachibowli Collapse

Hyderabad, August 26, 2026: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised buildings following the collapse of a seven-storey under-construction building in Gachibowli's Anjayya Nagar. Officials identified 38 structures for enforcement action, including buildings constructed beyond permitted limits on small plots.

9 Buildings Demolished 28 Get Notices

Of the 38 structures identified, CMC has issued 28 unauthorised construction notices, seized one building and demolished nine structures. Officials are now conducting daily inspections and monitoring enforcement action across the area.

The crackdown is focused on two major categories. On plots below 75 sq yards, buildings under construction exceeding 7 metres in height are being targeted. On plots larger than 75 sq yards, construction without valid building permission is being taken up for action.

 

Why Are Small Plot Buildings Under Scrutiny?

Officials said some buildings on plots as small as 50 sq yards were initially approved for only two floors but later expanded to seven or eight floors. In some cases, construction has also encroached on stormwater channels.

Authorities have raised concerns that foundations and pillars designed for the originally approved floors may not safely support additional construction, creating serious risks for residents and neighbouring properties.
