Bhopal Tightens Action on Commercial Use of Residential Properties Ahead of Supreme Court Hearing
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh | September 1, 2026: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will continue its enforcement drive against commercial activities operating from residential properties, following directions from the Supreme Court.
The civic body has issued 8,264 notices across Bhopal and has already started sealing establishments that continued commercial operations despite final warnings.

BMC has identified commercial activities being carried out from residential properties and issued notices to property owners and establishments.
More than 100 establishments, including hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars, factories and gyms, were served final notices directing them to stop commercial operations within 24 hours.
The action followed a phased enforcement process in which property owners were first given notices and time to comply.
Properties Still Operating Face Sealing
During Monday's drive, BMC enforcement teams inspected establishments that had received final notices.
Properties found closed were documented through panchnamas, while premises where commercial activity was still continuing were sealed by the civic body.
Police personnel were also deployed during the enforcement operation to maintain law and order.
